  1. Carol, I think it looks great! I had a friend who bought a brick house and she painted it all, too. It looks like a new house now that she painted it. The paint makes yours look like new, too! The color really sets off the garden.

  2. Randy and Carol.....what an awesome transformation......I believe it was a good decision....brings it up to date and that look is timeless. Steve said that brick was begging to be painted.....LOL......it is simply stunning......maybe other people will get the hint and not be afraid to do the same thing.

  4. I think your exterior makeover looks absolutely beautiful! I have been debating whether or not to do this to my home... if you don't mind me asking about how much did it cost to do this to your house?

  5. Thank you so much. We still love it as much today as the day it was finished.

My husband did all the work himself. If I remember right, it was about $1,200-$1,500 for supplies.

  6. Hi. Your home looks awesome. I'm planning on doing the same to my own this weekend, and I was hoping you could help me with a couple of questions (I've gotten mixed tips from the hardware stores):

    1. Was all the painting done with a roller and brush?
    2. Was anything other than water used to clean the brick before it was painted?
    3. The paint used, was it basically just a 100% acrylic latex?

Thank you for the help and for posting the pics!

  7. Thank you so much. Here's what we did.

1.) He used some kind of exterior cleanser that you mix with water. We were told this was not necessary but he did it anyway.

2.) He did a coat of sherwin-williams Loxon masonry coating conditioner. This seals the brick and prepares it for paint. My husband is convinced it is the reason we had such a successful outcome.

3.) We then used sherwin-williams best exterior acrylic latex.

Three years later and it looks as good today as the day we did it. I'm so happy I finally convinced him to do it!

Good luck with your job. I'd love to see before/after pics. If you post any, will you please send me the link?

    Thanks.

  8. Thank you for the information Carol, especially about the masonry coating conditioner. Two separate hardware stores told me I did not need it, but I was skeptical.

One last thing, do you know if your husband did all the painting with brush and roller?

Thank you again, and yes I can post some pics, however, my job is not nearly as great of an undertaking as what you have done.

  9. oh yeah...sorry I forgot to answer that one. :)

Yes, he did everything with brush and roller.

Like you, we were also told the conditioning coat wasn't essential by some, but we are so glad we did it anyway.

  10. Phew, wow that's a lot of work. I hope to finish this weekend. The whole time I was painting I was thinking of your husband, and how he had sooo much more to paint than I. Kudos to him.
